My baby is crying what should i do?
Run…
Kidding.
Don’t Panic. Babys do cry and you will make it out alive.
Babys cry for a number of reasons; they’re hungry, tired, have a soiled or wet nappy, in need of comfort (from you), they’re sick or in pain.
Babies can’t talk from day one we all know that and because of this, a babys cry is their best method of communicating with you about their feelings and needs. Everytime they cry you arrive and fix their problem. Its your job as a thier parent to figure out what the problem is.
The best way to deal with your crying baby is to work through your mental checklist (you can write it down if needed)
First check your babys nappy is it wet or filled with poo? If so change that nappy straight away
Still crying?
When did your baby last feed? If its coming upto or gone past the 2 hour mark try a bottle of milk
Still crying?
Time to give your baby a big cuddle and rub their back, chances are after going through these things your baby will fall asleep on you, so get ready to get comfy.
It sound to simple to be true but if you can remain relaxed and calm while your baby is trying to communicate with you (via crying/screaming/throwing a tantrum)
If your baby is crying because they seem to be in pain or they have a temperature don’t be afraid to speak to a health care professional. NHS 111 is brilliant in this regard.
Side note: if your baby is in their cot you can also allow them a chance to self soothe, there is no guarantee that it will work, but you will be thankful as your child gets older the earlier they manage to master this skill.
